Eucalyptus is AWS Compatible and Hypervisor Agnostic

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is by far the most widely used public cloud in the world. Eucalyptus is highly compatible with Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Store (EBS), and Simple Storage Service (S3) APIs.

Eucalyptus is designed to easily support most available and future hypervisors. As of this writing, Eucalyptus fully supports KVM and Xen. Additionally, the Enterprise Edition supports the proprietary VMware ESX and ESXi hypervisors.

Eucalyptus clouds provide many key benefits to companies that deploy them. In the next few posts we'll take a look at these benefits including:

  • on-demand, self-service IT provisioning,
  • integration with existing infrastructures,
  • industry-standard APIs and tools,
  • multiple hypervisor options,
  • a common Linux platform across components, and
  • resource pooling.
