Announcing the Eucalyptus Certified Professional on Eucalyptus 3 (EUCP3) Beta Exam

In a few weeks, we will be launching our first-ever certification program, the Eucalyptus Certified Professional on Eucalyptus 3 (EUCP3).  We wanted to give you early notice about its availability, and make sure you are given a prime opportunity to sign up for the beta exam. We have not pinned an exact date down, however we are making early seats available for pre-purchase.

FAQ Below:

What is this about?

Eucalyptus is launching the Eucalyptus Certified Professional on Eucalyptus 3 (EUCP3) certification program in late June or July. This is a high-stakes certification program similar in nature to programs offered by Red Hat, VMware, Cisco, and other software companies. You are invited to be an early participant in our beta exam.

What are the requirements?

After the beta period, all EUCP3 candidates will be required to attend and complete the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage course or equivalent content via the Cloud Connections series. However, for the beta period only, we are waiving the course requirement for anyone with at least three months of experience working with Eucalyptus software. Individuals without this kind of hands-on experience are unlikely to be able to achieve a passing exam score.

If you have already taken the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage course, you will receive an email with special instructions on how you can participate in the beta exam.

What is the cost?

After the beta period, the EUCP3 exam will cost $175 US, in addition to the cost of the required course. For a limited time, Eucalyptus is offering pre-purchase seats for the EUCP3 beta exam for $99 when you use coupon code FIRSTEUCP3. This price includes a copy of the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage course book, delivered in eBook format.

If you have already taken the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage course, please await further instructions via email.

Are there any other benefits of doing this?

In addition to the opportunity to be one of the first certified individuals in the program, the first 50 individuals to pass the certification exam will receive a limited edition EUCP3 t-shirt. For those who do not pass the exam during the beta, we will conduct a drawing for 10 winners to receive  free seats in a future, online delivery of the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage course. All beta participants will be entered in a drawing for a Kindle Fire, regardless of whether they pass the exam or not.

Where can I take the exam - what are the logistics?

The exam will be delivered remotely, so it can be taken from home if you choose. You will need to be able to install the testing software on the machine you plan to use. It will be a monitored exam, so you will have to have a web cam with a long enough cord and high enough quality to view the entire testing area and have the ability to pan the room. You will also need to have audio enabled on your testing PC or laptop, as the monitoring includes both audio and video. For a complete list of requirements, visit this web site:

Additional requirements may be published prior to launching the exam.

How do I study for the exam?

The exam is based entirely on the contents of the Eucalyptus 3: Design, Build, and Manage class. It is an open book, open notes exam, so you are allowed to use any printed resource - pages of the course book, personal notes, printed Eucalyptus documentation, etc. that you wish. Be advised, however, that the questions on this exam are designed to be difficult in an open-book format and the test will be timed, so you should know the contents of the course material very well before taking the exam. Most questions will not be answered directly by the courseware, but will be applications of knowledge contained in the book and lab materials. In addition, a beta version of the EUCP3 exam blueprint will be made available when the beta exam is formally made available.
